@espen, it takes some getting used to but once you see past the clutterness, blender often allows for a fast workflow (eg. once you know the key shortcuts, you're very fast at doing things, but it's tedious at first). but hey itcs free and low budget, so what i get for that is pretty cool. but yes, ...

usually yt recompresses the video, so in order ro get nnice quality try to use more bitrate. for 1280x720@30fps i usually chose 5-10Mbit/s, so for 60fps 10-20Mbit/s. to account for yts recompression i'd double that again, so 20-40 Mbit/s. If you want actual fullhd, use 1920x1080 and 40-80Mbit/s. che...

Hi Blackdot, Thanks for your detailed reply confirming that duration and bitrate are the determining factors for file size, but it doesn't shed any light on the issue I am experiencing with exporting from MMV. in my experience it also helps a lot to use the scene input module. it greatly helps to add a higher abstract level your actual scene where really only the modules that you need exposed are visible. together with the folder view, things stay organised too.

i would assume because these things are gpu intensive and your gpu is too weak. ergo low framerate. and maybe it's so fully occupied that also the rest it displays, the os, your mouse cursor, etc, gets laggy.
your cpu is 8 years old and your gpu 5. maybe it's time for a new computer?

Re: beatclock math magic
Here's sort of a way to do it, though you're stuck to a specific timing as it isn't off the midi clock. Record a midi file, tapping out the rhythm on your controller 1.2.345. Then replay it on loop. If you could then match this midi file to a beat clock or at least be able to change the playback sp...

Re: beatclock math magic
no i haven't come up with a solution myself, i think i severely lack the mathematical creativity for this :D. as far as i see this, as there are suddenly 5 inputs instead of 4, their threshold would be at 0.0, 0.2, 0.4, 0.6, 0.8 instead of 0.00, 0.25, 0.50, 0.75... soo to acheive the desired effect,...

beatclock math magic
hi, I wanted to ask if anyone has made experience in modifying a beatclock to show inputs for different amounts of time. i'll elaborate: if you use the beatclock/4 feature, you can show 4 inputs on each beat like this (first row shows input, second row shows 4 beats as "I") 1...2...3...4.....

Re: NOT restart video every time the scene changes?
I've found that a simple way to have a persistent video is to place the video in it's own scene with nothing else, and place this scene in other scenes. When you switch scenes, the video keeps playing without skipping or stopping, and stays in synch across scene transitions. put the scenes together...

Re: NOT restart video every time the scene changes?
afaik if you switch between your movie files using either the input selector or using single scenes for your video files, the "scene start" toggle works like this: if toggeled, the movie files starts from the beginning upon playing it. if not toggled, the movie file playes from the time it...

Re: Video transparency?
@blackdot True that. Wouldn't it be nice if the JPEGFolder was instead a generic IMAGEFolder that would allow you to load a series of alpha-channeled PNGs, or other format? :-) actually I think Eric said something about the jpg's being able to be run really fast and png's not. some kind of hardware...

and a fourth option would be to use a picture or video that does actually support and contain an alpha channel like png (for image) or 'quicktime animation' or 'hap alpha' codec for videos (there are others but I forgot them)

hmm. true, I cant figure it out either. seems like the trigger modifier cant be reset once started. except with ctrl-E which "synchronises" all modules, but that may have unintended side effects.

Re: MIDI thoughts
like this? if you have this scale 0 turned off by default, the beatclock triggers the trigger modifier as expected. if you turn the scale=0 on, the beactclock's efforts return 0, but the trigger still retains its current value (which is what you wanted to do, no?). turning off and on your modifier i...

hi sadler, how exactly are you employing the beatclock and the input selector? i use the beatclock quite a lot, maybe i can help you. i use it mostly with the jpeg folder to sync loopable sequences. i noticed for ex. that i get a more equal distribution/visibility of the input frames when (for eg 30...

made this
for a friend of mine. although it's not at all a pure magic project, I created some of the assets with it, the kaleidoscopic stuff.
other assets were created in blender and photoshop, the whole thing was composited in after effects.
cheers

hmm no, i'll try again :D. assuming you have 10 different scenes each containing a small movie. you can link 10 different buttons on your midi controller to each scene to be able to switch to each scene as you please. the way you do it is by pressing (and releasing) a button on your controller. this...

toggle content with the press of a button within one scene
what I'm missing is a way to toggle content on the press of a button (like when you toggle your scenes with midi buttons) bit within one scene. why? because otherwise the amount of possible content pieces i'm able to play is limited by the amount of buttons on my midi controller vs. having all my bu...

basically midi is just a protocol for data packets. a midi controller, eg. a piano keyboard just outputs certain signals when you press a button, eg. signal 1, signal 2, and so on. magic receives these signals, and you can do whatever you like with them. additionaly, midi controllers usually come wi...
