Re: Key Frames
Any Increase modifier acts as a timer from the start of a scene (or a reset) at which you can choose your moment. There is also the PlaybackTime internal that is a timer from the start of the loaded audio. Both in seconds. There's no absolute time for a clock but there are no doubt many apps out the...

It has been a little while since I looked but you're right, laptop GPUs are hobbled on memory now - very disappointing. Screenshot 2024-07-17 190805.jpg Almost anything would be better than T2000. A 4090 would be more headroom for sure but a matter of degrees over other cards. The only reason to definitely go for a 4090 is for the 24GB. I do quite nicely on a 2080 though I hit frame rate slow downs in some heavier s...

Yes, there are simple ways and more complex ways to automate to time (and midi/osc, audio). The simplest and arguably powerful is to use the playlist. There are many ways to roll one's own circular waveform but it's great to be able to add a quick circular wf when constructing scenes live or semi-live. The spectrum has a transparent background but, because you're using effects on the spectrum, this removes the alpha. You could add a lumakey to recreate it but this has the drawback that dark areas of the image will show the background (stars). You'd be better off simplifying it and using a Mask mod...

Re: Video Spectrum
It would be better for everyone, if those who are inspired or even just mildly interested, to try to recreate or adapt interesting effects - on here or elsewhere - and to post results. Even if mistakes are made, serendipity is strong in this activity and you get the benefit of learning for yourself,...

Re: Is it possible to Purge missing files?
There isn't an option to purge broken links unfortunately, and as you say, it is an annoying (but useful) warning. There have been feature requests before to deal with this - auto find/fix etc. You can select the text from this dialogue and copy it to the clipboard. I do this when I have the patienc...

Re: Video Spectrum
It is actually really simple. The basic idea is to find ways to move two or more polygons after applying them as a mask to some content. Trouble is, in order to mask one image (e.g. sprite sheet) or video to a group of polygons, they need to be 'grouped' as one. You can get around this by masking ea...

Video Spectrum
I had been thinking of an idea for a new suggestion for sprite sheets and related type effects. While trying to clarify that idea I discovered it can already be done. Here's one example that creates a video based spectrum effect. _ https://youtu.be/Ng4JC8TlRls ... I still have to explore what else c...

I would check for midi, audio, webcam devices or video driver - try disabling if possible. Assumption your using the latest build (2.33). Check task manager for other processes. Last resort, reinstall Magic.

See this thread Is there any way to play sound from video? In 2015 Eric wrote:One of the fundamental choices I made with Magic is that modules can only output visuals, not audio. All audio input/playback has to come from the Audio/MIDI window, which is completely separate from the modules.

Re: Transitions on top of transitions?
There are a few things to consider when dealing with transitions. A transition goes from one scene to another and therefore, must necessarily render both scenes during the transition - I often forget this and complex visuals stall on transition. This would be worse with layered transitions. Another ...

Re: recreate Windows Media Player Visual - Ocean Mist
Hey Jeff, With a few adjustments you could make the sample spectrum very close to 'ocean mist' and it would a a great way for you to learn about the iterator. If you want to just use the JPEGFolder module to change images on track change you'll need to get a list of the times and write some expressi...

OSC is exactly the same if using a momentary control. Though Touch OSC has momentary, toggle-press and toggle-release options. With either toggle option you don't need any additional modifiers.

Re: (Again) Please HELP : VIrtual Green Screen\Background Removal
Nothing, even your big green screen, will be good enough. Keying is hard. If you have Kinect, you can use the person id to generate a mask. Nvidia broadcast works well but only for one webcam. There are plenty of background removal systems, e.g. modnet but not real-time and trickier set up. You don'...

Re: Opacity On effects
This is reasonably simple for ISF (and likewise GLSL shaders) but tedious to go through all files, and for the built-in effects these will get overwritten on any new, update or re-install, and of course many built-in effects are not ISF. Add a float parameter (e.g. 'dry') then add this line to the e...

What the Dickens!
It's a bit early for xmas so I hope you'll forgive the snowy street scene. This one is more for technology demo than anything else - pushing the limit for an ultra-wide bitmap - I think I can maybe go a bit wider though it does slow down scene load time. The wall decorations are overlaid within Magi...

Re: glsl sandbox & shadertoy
Yes the Magic converter has been superseded by https://isf.vidvox.net/desktop-editor/ You talk about before and after but ISF hasn't changed in many years. Shadertoy has changed but not in a way that effects ISF or Magic much. ISF have a .fs or a .vs extension depending on whether its a fragment of ...

Re: 2D to 3D frequency map
Magic just doesn't have the lighting and material control for that sort of scene and it may not be possible in real-time - maybe in shaderland. This is the closest I could manage in Magic alone. Screenshot 2023-07-24 172918.png Also, the audio wave would completely destroy the serenity of that scene.

Re: MMV not listening to line-in input of sound interface
I don't have the Zoom installed anymore but from my source list, one can see I used U-44 ASIO driver - possibly because other drivers didn't work properly, not sure. Its a shame there's no alternative driver for macs that you could try.

Re: MMV not listening to line-in input of sound interface
I've used the zoom interface on a Windows computer without issue. So that's not it. And Magic supports audio-in for all versions, so it's not that either. I'm not a Mac user but it sounds like you can see the device in Magic. Some screenshots might help but perhaps you have the device selected but n...

Re: Round polygon corners
A bit of blur and a some contrast will give you these - they will interact in a metablob kinda way if they get too close, which is a nice effect too.
Adjust the fillet by changing the blur amount.

Re: Image On / Off progression by beat?
Hi Dan,
You're almost there with the InputSelector. You need to decide whether you want to react to the audio source or match the beat with a timer. In both cases you'd use a Trigger (Integer) fired by the audio or the timer (maybe a ramp).

Re: Image folder skip button and randomize button
This can be done already. Add a Random Trigger to the Index of the JPEGFolder. After that, add an expression with the following: (x*imagecount)+counter*10 where... imagecount = a global recording the number of images, and counter = a global After the JPEGFolder, insert a Reset node. Now, with the mo...

Thanks for trying. I first encountered this, I think, when trying to include some scenes in memory in a larger project which, otherwise, had no issues and which I've edited for several gigs. I saw your thread - glad to see you got that sorted. The exception is a stack overflow.
