Yes, I predict x86 may give over to ARM - though maybe not for Magic users just yet.
See this thread for benchmark project and a place to record results - though also post results on the forum if you can - I'd be interested.

Re: audio stopped coming into magic randomly
In that other voicemeeter post the OP had neglected to choose the correct routing next to the volume control (B1 virtual output in their case). Screenshot 2025-01-11 205108.jpg This is unlikely to be a Magic issue - more likely voicemeeter or sound card setup. As to why it used to work and now doesn...

Re: Issue: No output & freezes on Exit... UNLESS I run as Administrator
If Magic crashes, you should see errors in your event log - this may give a clue as to what is causing the crash and perhaps the lack of output. There are some reports of permission errors for nvidia drivers, though not related to output, but since an elevated Magic solves the problem, this does see...

Re: Is there any way to slow down the jitter ?
The 'jitter' is largely dependent on the audio you're reacting to and the frequencies you're selecting. Magic gives 5 gross audio bands which are good enough for most cases but within those bands are a lot of frequencies. That is where the 'jitter' comes from and, if you want to mitigate it, you mus...

Re: Utilizar reckordbox con DDj 400 y magic music visuals
The controller is just a controller, no? It doesn't do any audio. I don't really know reckordbox but I would imagine its like any other audio app. Are you using the built-in sound card or external sound card? Either way, to set up VBCable for magic to react to, it needs to be installed and enabled o...

Re: Help! NDI plug install
I was rocking 10.16 of NDI plugins for a gig a short while ago from my PC across a switch to a mac, live streaming the performance through OBS. That worked without any of the difficulty you seem to be having. I upgraded to 10.21 now and it still works (get a test image) without issue and didn't have...

Aligning media
Most media/elements comes into Magic aligned to centre. Only text can come in left or right aligned. When dealing with elements of similar dimensions this isn't an issue but, especially in JPEGFolder and VideoFolder, when elements have significantly different dimensions, it would be good to left or ...

Rotated images on Windows
I've been preparing some images (removing background, scaling, rotating, adding green screen etc). Part of my workflow is to prepare images for one side of the output then rotate them (using Windows Explorer context menu 'Rotate Right') to suit another. While doing this I note that the Magic Image a...

This is a little simpler and will run for hours without slipping. For added security, put the ramp in a global.

Tying up this thread, this is what I had in mind during a waking up dream - the poly arrangement changes on the beat. 144 polys in total for the cube with no cooling fan noise. Nice!

perhaps a custom ISF would make a good workaround Even the simplest ISF has a similar overhead as Transparency and other FX. Unless you meant something else? Performant transparency when iterating
I use random triggers a lot with iterators, often to randomise the colour across iterations. In this case, I want to use a random trigger to control the transparency of polygons. In Magic there are two ways to add transparency - using a colour node or a transparency node. A colour node requires both...

Re: Simple Fading
Yes, the scene or media would still be running. But you could also have a power off on the scene that activates when the fade is complete. Sync the two nodes using a global. Screenshot 2024-02-22 212809.png Also, depending on your exact use-case, a multimix may work for you. That will turn off input...

Put the video in its own scene (e.g. MyVid) then use the MyVid scene in all your other scenes. If you play a scene without MyVid within it, the video will restart when it plays again.

Re: Just purchased MMV. Wont save on Macbook 2013
I'm no mac person but in the video you're trying to save to the Samples folder which is within the Magic application and is therefore likely a permissions error. Try saving to another location, somewhere you have write permissions.

Re: for and while loops in expressions
Given there is no Magic specific guidance for expressions and Magic doesn't implement all of ExprTk, for things like this you just have to suck it and see. If a function is implemented you'll get a param error given nothing else. With a unimplemented function you'll get a reserved keyword error. The...

OK the advice above still works and now we have the much longer Hold. Perhaps you don't really want real random? I'm guessing you want to display each image once and only once in a random order. And when you say "with no result", really? There isn't any way to have a randomised sequence th...

Re: Time-Distortion Effect
That's a very nice effect - especially in real-time. I occasionally use an older FFGL which does a similar effect (ModularDelay) but if the buffer count pushes the limit of GPU memory it can crash Magic. FFGL will likely be deprecated with v3 so that won't be a long term option.

Re: Text module expression: Show only last line of text-file
Magic only uses the maths and logic parts of the expression toolkit. Expressions must return a number.
It is not possible to write your file in reverse? Or find some way to tail it outside of Magic.

There's no expression or internal that will give you the last line of a text file. At the risk of being obvious, why not just enter the number of lines?

The playlist has keyboard hotkeys for next and previous. You can just use the playlist directly or the internal global value of the playlist, "Playlist Entry #" in modules.

goto a

Re: Effective use of OSC file reload
If it is a race or blocking condition making it unreliable then perhaps working around it would be better. For example, continually re-loading the text file from the text file node using an oscillator. At the very least, it might help you debug/diagnose.

Re: How to create a control range that starts with a negative value using MIDI controller
There are just seven modifiers that allow -ve values and most of them don't make much sense - when would one ever want to Trigger or Clamp on -ve values? Offset, Scale, ok but the others are arguable. You could use a global to go from -20 to 20 and use that to scale in an expression, same with offse...

I can't test midi here right now but I think you have to assign the param to the modifier first, then you will see the option to clear the param and adjust its range.
