Video capture device

I am looking to get live video output of photoshop from one PC and into MMV on my PC. I am considering using a video capture device such as Black Magic but I'd like to know if MMV will support this as an input device. I would like to have someone live painting in photoshop and then add effects in real time to that through MMV. I have tried using a webcam to film the other PC's screen but it is difficult to get a quality video this way. If there are alternatives I would be interested in hearing suggestions as well. Other possibilities include using a tablet and painting app going into MMV. I have also considered using a program like splashtop to share the screen between PC's but any movement in that kind of software has too much lag.

Good question. You might want to try my free BlackSpout utility: viewtopic.php?f=6&t=201. It's a standalone program that lets you capture video from a BlackMagic device, and then send the video to any Spout-enabled application (Magic or otherwise). It's almost 2 years old now but it works fairly well for most purposes.

Keep in mind though, even with this solution, there will still be a bit of a lag.

Another option would be to look into OBS to do a live-stream of your Photoshop performer on their computer, and then use SpoutToNDI to send it over the network and receive the input in your computer. I haven't tried it with Magic, but it works for Resolume so it should work in Magic too.

...And yet another thing you could try is using VLC to set up a desktop streaming server on the Photoshop computer, and use Magic's VideoStream module to connect to that stream. https://wiki.videolan.org/Documentation ... ng_the_GUI. It works, but there can be quite a bit of lag depending on your setup.
