With images and bigger sizes, the birth size of the particles is too big so they "popping out" instead of some smooth scaling.
Can this be changed?

I think a 'fog' would help with this or an opacity curve at birth. But a period of inflation from nothing would help smooth the universe if Eric wants to play god.

You can scale the Starfield in the Z direction using the Scale module. Let me know if it helps.
