Dumb question, but does the starfield effect repeat in a specific way that can be determined? I made a couple cool effects using it lately, but I would prefer to make them into loops and I'm not sure how to calculate / know when the stars will line up again.

No, it doesn't repeat . Each new star's position is random.

I'm not even sure I could get it to repeat... it would be pretty tricky to create a seamless loop.
