Using text in real time (help!)

Post by stephilareine »

Hi, I'm a total newbie to MMV, had it about a week and it's uhhh-mazing!

Just a quick question I thought someone could possibly help me out with.
I'm in the final stages of my final degree show for a graphics exhibition, and using Magic Music Visuals for one aspect of the show, and would like to use speech dictate (voice recognition) to create text visuals from a microphone input in real time , word for word and use the visuals overlaying it, as a live ongoing exhibition.
Would I be best using Syphon Virtual Screen or is there any settings in MMV that would be suitable for this?

I really appreciate any help on this :)

I'll be posting up the final show on here as I've found some nifty visuals I can share!

you mean something like unscripted real time subtitles? afaik mmv doesnt have any speech recognition.

what you can use magic for is taking the mic input (e.g. the overall volume) and have that drive something. like the size/color/transparency/etc of an object, or the index of an image sequence, or trigger the start of a moviefile. and many more.

You could always point we webcam at another computer (https://dictation.io/ or Google Docs) or cellphone on which the speech recognition is running. Or you could use Open Broadcaster Software (https://obsproject.com/) to stream. ManyCam can capture a window on a PC or Mac and present it as a webcam.

That would probably work, or any of the things Sadler suggested would work too.

Honestly I hadn't thought of supporting real-time text input, but maybe it's something I can consider for a future version.
