THese methods can be applied to the motion or the properties of a image or effect by passing the data through a filter or graph. The filter give any property passed to it expression. It is a very powerful method to produce expressive and subtle motion. I am pretty sure it was implemented in after effects after it found huge success with flash, flash used tweening methods to change the face and motion on the web forever. When things slide or transition online or in applications, think how cell phone GUI phone transitions screen to screen, it is likely to the credit of easing equations. These would be fantastic to use in areas ranging from motion to fX.

Here is a easing function generator, it should show how motion is affected.

Those are cool. I think you could actually do them now with Expression modifier if you knew the equations. Any idea where the original equations can be found?
Edit: Oh never mind, I see that they are in the Flash plugin in the second link. I'll come back and give you an example when I have a bit of time.
