Supported Video Capture Devices?

Is there a list of supported devices to get video into MMV? I've had luck with a Logitech USB camera but not a Canopus firewire capture device.

Do you see your Canopus capture device listed in the VidCap module's "Device" drop-down box?
I had no trouble feeding Firewire/IEEE-1394 miniDV camcorders into Magic. They are available very cheaply now that their tape format is virtually obsolete, and the image quality looks great to me with the latest VidCap's de-interlace.
My recollection is that one must have an active video feed into a firewire capture device before it becomes visible to the computer. I'm away from base so can't check at the moment.
