Demo version, Spount and NDI

Post by ianef »

Hi, I am currently evaluating he demo version of MMV. I want to use this in conjunction with Resolume for my VJ performances.

I really need to use multiple outputs from different scenes so I can fade, switch, and blend them in Resolume as I feel fit to the music, along with other clips and stills.

There sems to be no native way of doing this, which is not good in my honest opinion, and I've tried installing the NDI plugin, and following the vague instructions for installing the Spout plugin. Neither seem to work. Is this because of limitations with the demo version?

I really do need to test this functionality before I make a purchase. If it doesn't work it's of very limited use to me. Having to switch back and forth from Resolume to Magic to change scene is way too limiting for live performances.

I've looked at the following posts and resources and can't make either output system work in Magic:

Spout and NDI are not available in the Demo version.

Thanks for the update.

So if I buy MMV and I still can't get it working, or working as I need it to with Resolume, can I get a refund?

As I said before I'd really like to prove that I can do what I want to do before committing to a purchase.

Magic will only output one Spout per instance and only on the same machine. NDI will do more if you have the right hardware/network.

Recommend you try Spout and NDI test sources that come with their installs if you're not already familiar with the technology.

This thread gives some advice for NDI: https://www.reddit.com/r/VIDEOENGINEERI ... di_handle/

I've used both Spout and NDI to resolume without issue, though rarely in a live performance except a few times. It puts a load on your machine so I avoid it if possible.

Excellent, thanks @Sadler. I'm going to be limiting it to 3 or 4 scenes, as you say it's wholly dependant on hardware. If I can run MMV and Resolume on the same device I will be happy, otherwise MMV on one and Resolume on another. I am an IT engineer, with beefy PCs and GPU, so I can handle any networking issues if required, but with just 2 devices at most I can't see any problems if I use a good switch.

It's just a pity that the MMV demo package doesn't support Spout or NDI. That wasn't clear from the demo page text. All it said was saving was disabled and a watermark would appear after 30 days. So I've spent quite a bit of time finding libraries, downloading them, trying to install them, getting very frustrated, and not being able to test what I want to.

Then you get a response saying that "Spout and NDI are not available in the demo version" which is not actually true. The main Magic window does output to Spout if you enable it. But the additional libraries to do this from a individual scenes do not work. Very very annoying indeed.

You can't save anything with the demo version, so you are really limited to samples they provide, why cripple other features? It makes no sense and makes people think it can't do what is expected. All stuff like that does is annoy people who want to test a product to see if it works for the situation they are looking to work with.

Magic Music Visuals works very well with Spout and I've used it as an effect processor and just as source into Resolume many times.

But right now I'm having issues with Resolume sending to Spout, but I'm using a version that bit old.
