Input Source: Player (aux) Output to Soundcard line-in?

Hey,
I just started with Magic and I am using my internal microphone (Mac Book) as input source. Since I want to have best pick-up from music playing (quality, lag) I considered buying an external soundcard with a line-in jack.
Is it possible to select this line-in as input source in Magic and connect to a player (phone, dj-player, or similar) with its aux/output?
I couldn't find any post dealing with the "line-in" keyword. Since I am pretty new to this topic, I am not sure if the "line-in" is deprecated terminology.
