Quick video tutorial on using Magic with Wavetick Studio

Post by Magic »

Here's a video sent to me by the nice folks at Wavesum (http://wavesum.net/).

Wavetick Studio is their flagship product. It provides many advanced features for beat detection of live audio input, including a variety of MIDI-mapping options. It can be used with Magic or any other software that accepts MIDI input.

I haven't tried it myself yet, but it seems pretty cool. Right now it's for OS X only.

Yes, it does seem quite useful but at 200 Euros after a 95% discount it would put a few potential users off. Also, it crashes for me on start up. I remember trying to test this with Resolume a while back and couldn't get it to run then either.

Magic Visuals on the other hand does much more, is very cost effective, is extremely stable and has great support.

OK so perhaps I was being a bit harsh, so I downloaded the demo to my home PC (wouldn't run on my work PC) and played with it. I wanted to get a solid beat on the InputSelector. Here's a ShadowPlay capture (not brilliant but all I have):
I would say it does have its uses but it gets confused by double beats and breaks and takes a bar to recover. I don't think I've quite got the maths correct yet. Some help with this would be appreciated.

On wavesum the company:
  • Their 'documentation' is mostly about how to pay and is for an old version and is missing the troubleshooting section.
There is no parity on their versions or platforms.
Their website has several links to malware (according to Google).
Their blog is 3 years out-of-date.
Their forum is non-functional due to spam
Their upgrade page takes you to a tumblr login.
Given all that, it's good to see a very recent video connected with Magic Visuals along with a couple of others - let's hope they get their act together with the rest of their website.

i have to agree here. when accessing their website from my mobilephone my connection got hijacked a couple of times and i landed on some porn site.

i bought waveclock the day before yesterday and thought i didnt get the key yet. turns out it went to my junk mail folder :). so everything's in order.

Founder of Wavesum here,
Thanks for your feedback.

>> Their blog is 3 years out-of-date.
Yeah. Tried blogging but gave it up cause nobody read it anyway : D
Also too busy trying to make ends meet.

>> Their upgrade page takes you to a tumblr login.
Thanks for pointing out, fixed this. An old link on the products page.

>> There is no parity on their versions or platforms.
What does this mean?

>> Their website has several links to malware (according to Google).
This is strange. If any of you guys get served any fishy html, I'd appreciate if you shared your findings.
Whole site is my static(crappy) html. Since I'm a C coder, this whole interwebs thing gets awfully neglected.
Anyway only external thing that I should link is the Zopim chat script, and Zopim seems like a legit company, right? :D

I did have this cat finder thing on the contact page for a while. http://www.catster.com/files/acf-ss.jpg
Could be it but then again it's been a while gone now .

Thanks,
-T

I bought waveclock and must say that it works very well!
The only drawback is, that it only triggers quarter-notes.
Improvement:
I´m routing it to Ableton Live to syncronize the BPM. In Ableton I set up scenes with different midi triggers that are sent to Magic.
For midi routin I´m using LoopBe30.
This way you can easily vary the notelength of the triggers :-)
AWESOME!

If anyone is interested in details, I can go more in depth...
