Among your "Additional Resources" you refer to VB Cable. Their Audio Density Demo has a very nice scene itself. Would be great if something similar is made available within Magic, e.g. as a 2D-scene.

Yeah that one's pretty cool! Although a lot of the coolness derives from the sound waves being very low in frequency. If they were higher-frequency (as in most music) they'd be a lot less smooth and pretty.
I do actually have plans to allow waveforms and spectra to be shown more three-dimensionally, which would be a very similar effect.
