export movie takes a long time

Post by juliekaylin »

I recently download the Magic demo on my computer, and I'm considering upgrading to the full version. Before I do that, though, I'm wondering if the export process will be quicker in the full version than in the demo version. I am surprised at how slow the export process is in the demo version, and I have some very long projects that I'd like to create using Magic. Thank you.

Nope, it won't go any faster unfortunately. The speed of the export is based on:
1) the complexity of your project
2) your export settings (resolution, fps, bitrate, mp4 vs png -- mp4 is much quicker)
3) the speed of your computer (CPU, graphics card, hard drive)

The way I test the export speed is with the ManyScenes sample project. A decent computer can usually export a 1280x720 .mp4 of this project at around 30 fps, so if you're exporting at the default of 60 fps, it should take 2x the length of the movie to export it. In other words, if your desired movie length is 1 minute, the export should take 2 minutes. A 1-hour movie would take 2 hours. And so on. Is that not the kind of speed you're seeing?
