I just installed the demo version of Magic.
I like the concept, but both the Magic as well as Preview window are always black.
I tried various sample projects and input sources, but no luck. I can Export to movie and everything looks good there.
I have an i7 laptop with 8GB RAM and a 750GB SSD.
The OpenGL Info displays:
Version: 4.5.0 NVIDIA 376.54
Vendor: NVIDIA Corporation
Maximum RGBA Texture Size: 16384x16384 pixels
Maximum Renderbuffer Size: 16384x16384 pixels
In device manager two display adapter drivers are displays:
Intel(R) HD Graphics Family
NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M
Both drivers are up-to-date.
Can anyone make any suggestions?
Magic and Preview window stay black
Re: Magic and Preview window stay black
That is very strange. In the Magic and/or Preview windows, do you see the resolution and frame rate? It should say something like "1280x720 60.0" in the bottom left corner.

Nope. The window is completely black.Eric wrote:That is very strange. In the Magic and/or Preview windows, do you see the resolution and frame rate? It should say something like "1280x720 60.0" in the bottom left corner.

I'm not sure then. The only thing I can think of is that it might be some kind of issue with the integrated Intel graphics vs the discrete Nvidia graphics. You can specifically force Magic to use one or the other in the Nvidia Control Panel, as I described here: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=784&p=3450#p3450
Let me know if that helps at all.

Thanks for pointing in the right direction.
After forcing Magic to use the internal graphics card (not the NVIDIA GeForce) it is now working!
Looking forward to hours of fun!

That's good . Still, very strange. The Nvidia should perform better than the Intel. I'll think about this some more...
Re: Magic and Preview window stay black
I've had the same issue and resolved it with the same method, however is there any update on whether this will be fixed somehow? Integrated graphics cannot maintain as good a frame rate as my Nvidia card (obviously)
Re: Magic and Preview window stay black
It's hard for me to say, because the problem could be inside Magic, but it could also be with the graphics drivers. Personally I have seen many bugs in both the Intel and the Nvidia drivers.
The next release of Magic (2.01) will be available soon, and it does have some bug fixes, but it if you want to try something in the meantime, you could always try an older (or newer) graphics driver.
Not sure what else I could suggest right now.

Problem still there with 2.01 which kinda sucks
