video recording stuff

Post by renzyfan »

Hi Eric!!!! And all you magic people ;)
I have a simple question about recording the output of magic (eventually with audio...) In the SIMPLEST AND MORE LINEAR AS POSSIBLE WAY...I mean there's a lot of stuff out there which can do the job...but I have to admit I'm a bit confused! ( maybe, no...surely it is my fault!)
Here is the question (my need at the moment): I have to SIMPLY record (in the same system, same machine) video output from magic, spout is enabled and working, so what is the best way (program, utility...) to do it? I've just found 'Isadora' as a possible solution but as said before I only need the output to be recorded and no mix, no adds etc. so maybe is a bit like use and learn a ferrari when you can go with a bike...maybe I miss something (if u suggest it I will learn about but maybe there's something simpler...) The other thing I don't know is if is possible to use vidcam output (I activated it in the spout installation if I well remember) that maybe some program will use for captures...(if poss) or is it necessary to use the sender and receiver as plugins?
I would like to avoid FRAPS, BB FLASHB and co. But I ignore the REAL PROS AND CONS of the various methods so....PLEASE HELP...HELP...HELP
THANKS, THANKS, THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hello, is there a reason you do not want to use builtin video export.

If your set is responding to predetermined audio sequence. Using built in video export allows for non real time rendering. In my case, since I use a lot of GLSL shaders it allows for high rendering.

If you want to record in real time from Spout enabled application is a bit complicated. On OSX side with Syphon it is simpler. There is Syphon Recorder, on windows with Spout, I could not find any applications that do Spout Recording. You can try to use Resolume, or Touch Designer, and then just record the ouput

Hi Bareimage! And thanx 4 help!
I use/used a lot the export funct of course...but as u realized I'm looking for a real time recording option...we're into an improvisations vortex (music) and we'd like to fix some moments in audiovisuals...(also improvisated often with random midi scene selections responding to music scenes and more of course...) now I believe u're right...it seems not so simple :( (I'll look into programs u suggested and isadora too which seems to record the stages to quicktime with mov output or capture function...)
Who knows if the signal from vidcam via spout can be captured? Shoud be a nice option 4 our job...
Any suggestion is welcome!
THANX BAREIMAGE!

Isadora is a good program but demo can not record stages.

Touch Designer is free for non commercial use. But it is not easy to use out of the box, I will have to fire up my Windows Surface to create a basic composition that can record the settings.

You should also consider doing something in VVVV and recording stage output

Thanx again bareimage! Now I only have to test those progs and find myself the best solution for me...and sure I'll blend some new program features in my setup!
Keep in touch! (Designer of course)

Hi there! About my task (simple recorder for the vidcam out created by spout...) I came to a simple program I didn't heard before that done the job clean and simple, it's camtasia studio 8!
I've been able to record: 8 tracks (4 stereo) in cubase 5 vst (live gig), run magic controlled via midi from external laptop (running ableton also part of the gig) and camtasia capturing vidcam 1280x720 with a stereo audio track (that maybe could be updated with post produced cubase render...4 instance).
In our case all is based on inprovisation so with rendom midi controlling magic scenes we are ready to just create music and video in real time! With 2 clicks start and 2 clicks stop :)))))
next step is broadcast (I listen good things about quicktime broadcaster...I'll take a look)
I tested vegas, isadora, resolume (not able to configure audio asio...even perfectly suited 4...very strange! Freeze with all cards drivers I have...), and many others (let's say all of them too advanced for the task!) Last thing I could say is that there are few progs related to camtasia really intresting like 'fuse'...ah the company is Tech Smith...
that's all 4 now
...a nice day to all magic peaple 8-)

Cool stuff, i a question, does Camista take in spout, or you are doing screen capture?

I used OBS the other day to record a quick test run to send to my mixshow partner, worked great. Its what we use for broadcasting our show and it has a couple different capture options that can grab the Magic window, and allows you to add more inputs, layers and text all while recording audio and video.

I even use it during broadcasts to display embeds from say Giphy or twitter, it can display certain flash files, and it has hotkey commands for changing scenes.

Hi there!
Bareimage! About Camtasia I use cam capture recording (with audio) feature so no screen capture...I also found very useful manycam that does (also) the same thing but of course is used normally to input cam streams which is great!!!...to be used in input modules...anyway if cam streams are not used is good as vidcam spout recorder (must be registered because of many limitations...)

Hi Kidlogic! I'll look a.s.a.p. into OBS!!! Looks a great solution! ;)

Hi there! Finally I can say that the best way to go (4 now & 4 me...) is OBS!!! (Thanks kidlogic)...perfectly equipped with all is needed to record and broadcast...for spout cam use (as capture device in obs) the video resolution must match the magic one...otherwise only red screen is achived...also game capture is good (I'm testing pros and cons...)
Good program...!
While I should say that 'camtasia studio' has 2 big limitations I didn't realize when posted my test...the audio is recorded MONO (a bug I suppose...) and the video format is only 4/3 no 16/9 (here a trick is possible using 4/3 in magic and the output in 'camtasia' will achive video correctly....but the audio issue is...enormous! Mono!
I'd like to thank again bareimage and kidlogic 4 precious help!!! Keep in touch!
