Does Magic scale to 3.2K?
Does Magic scale to 3.2K?
I was previously creating videos on a PC with a high quality 4K monitor but I now have to move to using a laptop. This may be a stupid question but if I get a laptop with a 3.2K display will it cause any issues with video previewing in Magic? Will video previews scale to 3.2K for 4K projects? It's hard to get a decent laptop with a 4K OLED screen but there are a few 3.2K options.

Re: Does Magic scale to 3.2K?
The video export resolution is entirely independent of the Magic project resolution, so no problem at all with editing and previewing in a Magic project of a significantly lower resolution.
Although most of my Magic work is with Iive performance I occasionally make 4k videos from my Magic projects. The projects themselves are never more than 1080p60 resolution, and often at 720p60. For my real-time use with music-responsive visual elements I find that a high frame rate and smaller VRAM usage is far more important than resolution.
Even with a project intended as a video I use a Magic project at half the desired output resolution
to give the responsiveness I need while designing. It is of course essential to use the same aspect ratio.
Trails effects will render very differently at different frame rates, so the most important issue for me is to have the same frame rate while designing as is wanted for the final video. If I can't set this on my laptop or main PC monitor I use a separate monitor that can work at the desired (eg 24p) frame rate, and force this if necessary for that monitor using GPU or PC settings.
A secondary issue is that a small screen, even if capable of the desired video output resolution, displays it at such a small size that my eyesight can't resolve the finest details. For final QC of the video I watch it on my 42" 4k TV in the dark.
Edit: I find a separate monitor very useful while designing. I can have a full screen preview on that while using my laptop screen for editing. I now always carry a portable monitor in my laptop bag.
Edit2b: If your laptop has a gaming-centred high frame rate display it will be important to set it to run at your desired video frame rate if you're not using a separate monitor for such previewing. I've just checked and believe this is a likely option for battery efficiency and smooth video display, but it's worth confirming for any intended model.
ps. There are no "stupid" questions. Feel free to ask anything,
