steps
1. close magic
2. power down keyboard.
3 open magic
4 power on keyboard
it's at this point that I find that the keyboard is no longer selected in the keyboard input source. I select it again from the list, and now all the CC assignments have switched to "velocity". Effectively I lose my mappings every time this happens and have to reconfigure them.

It also loses my audio input source from time to time, which is set to voicemeter vaio. Then randomly it will switch to voicementer AUX and I will have to switch it back.
Re: midi configuration is not preserving itself
If you want to preserve the continuity of the default device settings, the devices have to be connected and powered on before starting Magic. I believe this is explained further in the User’s Guide.
Re: midi configuration is not preserving itself
Fair enough. Are there plans to fix that?
Re: midi configuration is not preserving itself
Or is this something that can be avoided I used OSC instead?
Re: midi configuration is not preserving itself
For anyone else who may be dealing with this, I've found it easier to make globals for each of the mapped CC's within my effects module (where I encapsulate a ton of fx). That way if I lose the mapping I can just step down the globals list and re-assign them to controls. This is much quicker and less error prone than having to hunt each individual effect down.
