Exporting 4K

Post by lekepistol »

Why don't I get smooth frame rates on my exported videos in 4k/uhd?

I've tried various ProRes formats and mp4. I understand that the preview window has it's limitations when processing live graphics (HD gives me frame rates around 60, but 4K is around 15), but why do I get choppy exports?

A workaround is to export png, but that's a lot of steps just to get a video put together.

If you’re only getting 15fps in Magic then your computer probably just isn’t fast enough to smoothly play back high quality 4K videos. It actually has more to do with disk speed than anything else. I bet that if you uploaded your 4K videos to YouTube they’d play back fine because since they are streaming they never touch your disk.

Thanks! You were right about the disk speed. Moving the videos over to my SSD solved it. :)

But when it comes to live rendering in Magic: Is 15 fps in 4k the expected frame rate on a system like this:

Intel(R) Core(TM) i9-9900KF CPU @ 3.60GHz, 3600 Mhz, 8 Core(s), 16 Logical Processor(s)
Installed Physical Memory (RAM) 16,0 GB
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER

It all depends on how complex your effects are.
