ARM native support for Apple computers?
ARM native support for Apple computers?
Hi Magic team! Is it planned to transition Magic to the new generation of Apple processors?
Re: ARM native support for Apple computers?
Possibly, but I can't say exactly when.
Re: ARM native support for Apple computers?
In a previous post here, someone mentioned that it ran on a Mac M1 under Rosetta. Is there anyone here running magic on a new M1?
Magic kills my old macbook pro at gigs and we're thinking of investing in a mac mini. I'd love to hear if anyone is running it successfully.

We have an M1 Mini here in the office and it runs Magic fine, but if you are doing serious gigs then you should invest in something more powerful, maybe with a discrete graphics card.

Re: ARM native support for Apple computers?
Just want to add, that I've been using Magic for a while on my Mac Studio and although Magic works great in isolation it can bog down when I'm streaming with OBS. As such, I am curious about the possibility of improved performance with future arm native support!
(To be clear though; I am trying to push the limits here as I run the visuals at 4K and live stream or record at 4K too)

Re: ARM native support for Apple computers?
Hi,
I am new here but I have known about MMV for a while and played with the demo many times. It is my favorite VJing software and now that I need it for some live shows I'm on the verge of buying a Perform license.
However, I am quite worried about the lack of Apple Silicon support for this app. If it doesn't receive any, it will be unsupported at some point. I would like to use it for a long while if possible (don't want MMV to disappear!).
Is there any info on updates to MMV, including Apple Silicon news?

I'm also curious about it. I run most shaders and other things in Processing and use Syphon to send it to MMV. Processing with Syphon is also still "Intel" only.
Any plans for MMV to become ARM native?

It appears that Rosetta won't be with us much longer, so it's either going to have to go native ARM or abandon MacOS.
Re: ARM native support for Apple computers?
Don't worry, Magic 3.0 will have native ARM support.

Re: ARM native support for Apple computers?
I’m very excited about the upcoming Magic 3.0 release. Does the team have any high-level visibility on whether the release is tracking toward a Q4/November window? I'd love to use it on an upcoming music tour and have been running shaders in VDMX instead to run them in an Apple Silicon Native program but the FFT smoothing in Magic is bar-none i've found in a program; VDMX is too jerky with the FFT input. Plus not every shader that works in Magic works in VDMX.
I am eager to help put the ARM build through its paces if there is an early-access or beta program. I’m happy to stress-test in a live-production environment and provide detailed, actionable feedback for the team.
Thanks for all the hard work on this; even incremental gains in efficiency are a huge win for live reliability.
