I've got some transparent (alpha channel) HEVC videos that I'm trying to use. They appear transparent in other software, but they're not transparent when I load them in the VideoFile module.
Anyone know what I'm doing wrong? Thanks!
Alpha transparency in VideoFile module
Re: Alpha transparency in VideoFile module
The VideoFile module does support some codecs with alpha, but maybe not HEVC.
Re: Alpha transparency in VideoFile module
Ok, anyone know a codec in particular that works? Animated PNG files don't work properly, either. They take a very long time to reset to the 1st frame, while looping.
Re: Alpha transparency in VideoFile module
By far the most efficient codec to use in the VideoFile module is Hap, which has an Alpha option. https://hap.video/using-hap.html

Re: Alpha transparency in VideoFile module
[Update]
I got it to work with the Voukoder Plugin and then exporting from Davinci Resolve direct as HAP.
[OLD Message]
That really brings me to my limits right now. I have a masked video in Davinci Resolve and now want to export ist with Alpha Channel to use it in MagicMV.
Testet several Formats, but nothing works for me...
DNxHR HQ --> big file and MagivMV does not have the Alpha Channel
DNxHR 44 12-bit --> super big file and crashes MagicMV
AVI Grass Valey --> is super slow and has some kind of green Alpha Layer not completely transparent
GoPro CineForm --> nice file size but invalid format for MagicMV
Would appreciate it enormously if someone could show me a useful workflow? (i use Windows)

Re: Alpha transparency in VideoFile module
I had the same issue on my Mac. After trying many various HAP decoders, only one did the job. I think it's because all these are outdated and/or maybe not compatible wit a Silicon Mac. The one that works is a plugin for Premiere Pro called AfterCodecs from Autokroma. But it only works for HAP Alpha and not for HAP Q Alpha. When opening a file exported with HAP Q Alpha, MagicMV gives an 'invalid file' error. The AfterCodecs is a payed plugin (about 100 euro), but it is free when using up to 500 frames. For the time being that's just enough for me.
Re: Alpha transparency in VideoFile module
It turns out that the free 500 frames from AfterCodecs is not enough for me. So I searched further and found that Premiere Pro 2025 (yes they are ahead of their time
), does offer export of a video with alpha channel that MMV does accept. This YT explains it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-eGBrC50wcY. So this is the solution IF you have Premiere Pro. Hopefully other video editors do offer the same option like, as mentioned earlier, Davinci Resolve. BTW I'm on a Mac, so maybe for Windows it is (completely) different.
