video textures?

Post by blackdot »

are video textures for the 3d models supported somehow?

Also did i get that right that apart from a basic diffuse colour other things like specular map or bump map and so on (reflection, translucency, subsurface scattering, normalmap...) arent supported?

Video texturing isn't directly supported on models (yet). It's definitely something I plan on adding though. But one thing you can try is masking a video onto a model, as I demonstrated in this post: http://magicmusicvisuals.com/forums/vie ... rt=10#p967

Yeah I guess I never implemented those things :). I'll have another look.

Ah awesom!

yeah that doesnt work with moving 3d models though i assume :)

that would be nice of course and would further go down the 3D "game-engine-ish" road, but as i've figured out by now, i seem to be the only one who would want such features :P

Me too!
Also, and with apologies if this has already been requested, I would like control of lighting for 3D models. Options of light size, shape, position and colour.

An option to replace a light source with a scene would be awesome, and facilitate integration of the 3D model with its environment.
Think how much money we'd save on video walls and acting talent! :D

I think it would work just fine actually, as long as you apply the same rotation/translation/scaling to the video that you do to the model.
replace a light source with a scene
Meaning, to be able to light a model with a light from another model's scene?

Yes, exactly, with the relative position and orientation of the scene being moveable in 3D space.

While we're at it: more than one light source, dynamic shadows :)

yeah that, but without programming and native support in magic :D .

Interesting! Yes, I think most of those things are possible. Actually, almost all graphics cards have native support for hardware-accelerated fog. Cool, eh?

fog would be pretty cool. that way new objects could *fade in* from the distance. then we'd only need a capable and flexible particle emitter :). but i said that already. i'll be patient and shut up now :D .
