If you want to use a MIDI controller to turn modules on and off, you basically need to do three things. Hopefully pretty easy.

1) Show the Bypass/Power parameter(s) by right-clicking on the module's title bar and selecting "Show Param For > Bypass/Power".

(For a bit more info, see http://magicmusicvisuals.com/downloads/ ... ingModules -- scroll down a little to see "Power/Bypass Parameters".)

2) Link the desired parameter by clicking on its link button (the blue one on the right side -- it turns blue when you click on it).

(For more info on linking, see http://magicmusicvisuals.com/downloads/ ... Parameters.)

3) Use MIDI Learn to detect which button on your MIDI device should control the parameter:

That should be it!

All the images above are from the User's Guide, which has lots of info as you can see.

Let me know if you still have any questions.

Hello!

I've run into a snag with MIDI parameter and I can't tell if what I'm trying to do is unsupported, or if I'm just too thick to see how it's done

Currently, I'm using note velocities to detect button presses on my Akai APC20. Magic picks up the data perfectly, but my problem is that I'd like to use some buttons to "toggle" rather than to "flash" modules on/off. That is, I'd like to be able to tap a MIDI note once to turn a module on, then tap the same note again to turn it off, instead of having to hold it down for the duration I want it on, and having it turn off as soon as I let go. The current workaround I have is using faders as the MIDI controller for the module's power, but I have way more buttons than faders and quickly ran out, plus even slamming the fader isn't as immediate. Is there currently any way to set up a toggle?

i'm loving Magic so far and this is the currently the only feature holding me back from using it live, rather than prerecording clips to playback through Resolume. I'd love to be able to busk a show with entirely live-generated viz!

Does the APC20 have a mapping editor? If it does, you might be able to adjust the momentary vs. toggle mode there.

In the editor for my Orbit, you can change the mode for every pad:

Other than that, Magic doesn't currently support a MIDI button as a toggle switch, but I can certainly look into adding it.

As alternative solutions, if you have a Windows machine you may also want to look into http://www.midiox.com/, though I'm not 100% sure if it would work. I've also heard that http://www.bome.com/products/miditranslator is good but it's not free.
