vidcap with iphone/ipad?

Post by Ralf »

Hi,
I am from germany, so my englisch isn´t the best and I am also an absolute beginner in video and magic :/
Is it possible to connect an iphone/ipad as a video source to magics (windows) vidcap modul?
Thanks a lot,
Ralf

Hi Ralf, I think you would probably want to use an IP camera app such as this one: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/ipcamer ... 12928?mt=8.

Then you can use something like ManyCam (see this topic: http://magicmusicvisuals.com/forums/vie ... ?f=2&t=131), which will connect to the IP camera and let you use it as a webcam.

Let me know if that helps.

Hi Eric,

and thank you for your fast reply. Yes, but that's just one of the things I have in mind.
There are also many nice apps to create interesting graphical output, you can manipulate in real time by using the touchscreen,
so it would be great, if there is also a way to transfer the 'screen output' to magic...

Thanks again and greetings from germany.

Ah, I see what you're saying :). In that case, couldn't you just use a video cable from the iPad/iPhone? And then you could use a capture card to get the video into your computer?

I'm not sure if there are any apps for iPad/iPhone which will capture and wirelessly stream video of the screen output.

Hi Eric,

ok, I have connected my ipad using this software (http://www.mirroring360.com/) with my pc and mirroring works fine.
But if I add the vidcap module in magic, there isn´t a video source that I could choose :/
Must I do anything else in magic before it can 'see' the screen? Or is magic just not compatible with the mirroring software?
Sorry if I waste your time :(

No problem :). Unfortunately the VidCap module will only work with software or hardware that has a standard capture driver. You would probably need to use a video output cable (like this one: http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC748 ... e?fnode=3a), and then a video capture device for your computer.

Or, another thing you could try is using ManyCam (see above link) to capture an area of the screen. You could do this in conjunction with Mirroring 360.

Thanks a lot for your help and informations Eric! I´ll try that.
But I think, I am wrong with my thoughts... As an electronic musician, I use magic for making videos for youtube (if you want to have a look - https://www.youtube.com/user/radolfosan/videos).
My idea was, to mix the 'live output' of some ipad apps with other stuff that I create in magic, to get a more 'direct' controll about some things in the video... But as I saw now, it is not possible, to use the vidcap module, if I want to render the video :/
So I have to think over, on what other way I can get to this result...

Thanks again for your time,
Ralf

It's certainly possible on Mac - I do this all the time. I airplay the device to Reflector on a Macbook, then use Desktop-to-Syphon to transmit that received & rendered video into Isadora, where I have a patch which crossfades / mixes from the iPhone output to the Magic output (which is also piped into Isadora by Syphon).

Or, to use multiple iOS devices as wireless cameras, I simply run EpocCam on everything, which then reveals up to 4x iOS camera feeds on the Macbook Pro as Syphon streams that I can tap in Isadora.

There should be Sprout or Wyphon equivalents on Windows that would allow you to accomplish all this.
