Way to slow down a visualization for a screencapture?

Post by trillionanswers »

Hello!

I am using the waveform visualization which is working amazingly well.

I want to be able to take a screenshot of a specific second in a given song to turn the waveform into a piece of art, but it moves too fast to do so.

Can someone kindly advise on if there is a way to slow down the interpretation of the music so I can slow down the waveform?

Add the song as an audio file in the input sources window, and assign it as Magic's audio source

Export your project as an image sequence, using the same resolution and frame rate as you are using to watch the waveform "live".

You will get a separate still image file for every frame that Magic displays. If Magic is running at 60 frames fps, you'll get 60 "screenshots" per second for the duration of the song, and then can select a specific one.
From the frame rate and the timing of your "specific second" you can calculate which image in the exported sequence is the one you want.

There will likely be thousands of images, and the export process will take a lot of time and disk space. To speed up the export process you can use a short clip of the song, containing the section you're interested in. Depending on your project you may need to include a few seconds (or even tens of seconds) of preceding audio to allow effects to stabilise.

Edit:
Once you have the short clip, a useful option could be to re-run the image sequence export at a much higher resolution.
