Make a line spectrum with constant thickness

Hi,

I have tried to do this but can't figure out how and after a quick search I can't find anything that gets a result similar to this. I want to make a spectrum that is a single line with constant thickness, similar to the one in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tgAfz-kbhM0. However, simply creating a spectrum results in, well, a complete spectrum. The closest I got to this was layering two spectrums on top of each other, the one on top being black, and the one on bottom being white, and translating the black one downwards slightly. However, even with increasing smoothness and adjusting the threshold on the spectrums, this does not give as neat of a line or even a line with constant thickness as I would like. Any ideas on how this could be done?

Perhaps you could use one of the edge detection effects?
