Fixing the Downbeat for a music video

Post by sakura-ryoko »

Hello team,
I am having a small issue that whenever I am making a Music Video for one of my songs, the software seems to "Mute" part of my downbeat in the track.

Sure, I can edit the WAV or MP3, and add a few MS of silence at the beginning, but what is causing this? I've have a similar problem using Vegas, unless I load in the master WAV file instead of the MP3, but with Magic; this has no effect on the output, and it continues to "Mute" the downbeat's transient like it's hitting a compressor with a fast attack.

Thanks!

I don't really know. Are you sure your mp3 isn't clipping?

Or maybe it's this issue? https://magicmusicvisuals.com/forums/vi ... f=2&t=2469

Yes, this is the same issue; but when I searched for this, I guess I wasn't searching for the same words to find a relevant topic.

I was using words like "Downbeat", etc to search for; because to me, that's exactly what it is attenuating / cutting.

Also, my audio files are fully mastered to about 8-10 LUFS, but they are not clipping. They are limited to (-0.30dB) via Ableton / Ozone. I check this multiple times before bouncing my Masters. They are this Loud for use in a Club environment, and around the average LUFS used by your average Mastering engineer.

This is why having the Downbeat's transient "muted" becomes an issue; so in order for me to fix this, I have to go back, make a second copy of my WAV files just for the Video, and add around 100-200ms of silence at the beginning. Same is true for the MP3.

You don't have to do any of that. The issue is fixed in the 2.31 Beta: https://magicmusicvisuals.com/forums/vi ... 394#p10798

I came on to the website to see if there was a new version, I didn't see any so I posted this topic. I will try it for my next release.

I unfortunately did not take any serious notice of this issue until I was loading the music video's up in Serato to play them live, and opted for the Audio format.

Thank you!

UPDATE: I gave it a quick "test" and the BETA version still seems to have the issue depending on what Playback software you are using. It seems to be an issue with VideoLAN's VLC Player rather than the Video. I tried opening it up in a Video Editor, and the waveforms seem correct, so I then tried "Media Player Classic" and it played correctly. It's not your fault then -- It's VideoLAN's software that this point. The Downbeat also shows up at Frame 0 (1?) in Serato just fine.
