Free particles movie maker

Post by Terry Payman »

Boris FX have released a free version of their Particle Illusion software, which can export movies in many ProRes video formats - including with alpha channel.
2,500 emitters to choose from if you download the free addon pack (Select Particle Illusion as host when downloading and restart Particle Illusion afterwards).

Extensive free tutorials too!

64-bit Mac or Win

EDIT: Hugely powerful timeline control.
Different Emitters can be added along a timeline, and all parameters can be dynamically controlled too.

Not a recommended workflow, but as a quick experiment...

In Boris FX Particle Illusion
- I chose an emitter and adjusted some parameters
- Rendered a ProRes movie

In Adobe Media Encoder
- Added the ProRes movie as a source
- Rendered the movie to individual JPEGs in a folder

In Magic
- Added a JpegFolder module and selected the folder rendered by Media Encoder
- Added an audio file as source.
- Linked it to JpegFolder's Index
- Adjusted Scale, Peak and Average modifiers to give a result I liked
- Exported a video file.

The audio track starts slowly, try jumping 16s into the video

Thanks for the heads up. I had downloaded this a while back but never took the time to get into it. It seems there's a new version in the works that will bring 3d FX (currently all FX are 2d) and improvements to turbulence and secondary particles - assuming they'll make it into the stand-alone version.

I also like what you've managed to get out of it.

Thanks Sadler!

A 3D version would be very interesting, but there are so many parameters with just the 2D that I'm already overwhelmed with the possibilities - so quite happy to wait!

I've just watched the sneak peak. The presenter states that the new features will indeed make it into the 2021 stand-alone, and confirms that with a colleague :D
