Need help optimizing for Mac

I've been using magic on gigs for a while now with great success except, the program is really pushing my 2013 macbook pro beyond it's limits. It overheats, refuses to charge the battery and I get kernel_task errors. I do use 2 other programs at the same time that control my mixing desk and lighting rig but they are light on cpu and ram. Has anyone had any success making changes that help beyond whats recommended on magic's site?

Or do I just need to get a dedicated computer for the task with a better graphics card and more ram?

Thanks for suggestions in advance.

I can't say I've ever heard of Magic being responsible for the battery not charging! Sounds like you might have some hardware issues there...

Battery not charging is probably overstating the problem.

It'd be more accurate to say, the fans are running at max for the whole gig and the charger can't keep up. i.e. I could start the gig with battery at 100% and with the charger plugged in for the whole gig, the battery could be at 75% at the end of the gig. The MBP works fine with any other software I use.

Ok, obviously I don't know what other software you use, but Magic is more like a game engine than most other creative apps, and it does require more computing resources because it is "always running". If you've followed *all* the recommendations in the User's Guide (which solve most issues for most people), but you're still encountering issues, then a faster computer should probably be something you look at.
