Multiple audio channel input not working

Post by Dave Masters »

Hi,

I have a presonus 24.4.2 console that I use as a firewire audio interface to my ADK system. Despite numerous attempts, I cant seem to get Magic to pass audio thru multiple channels. All the inputs from the Presonus appear in the audio/midi dialog box in Magic, but they don't seem to pass audio. Am I completing missing something...?

Cheers D

Hi Dave, to get multi-channel input on Windows, you'll probably have to select the ASIO version of your device. You can do this by clicking in the box at the top of the Audio/MIDI Window. If the box isn't showing, click on the blue down-arrow button, and select "Show Audio Config".

For example, here's what my Audio/MIDI Window looks like for my M-Audio device:

Does your configuration look anything like that? If not, would you be able to post a screenshot of what yours looks like?

Also, you may want to have a look at this section of the User's Guide, if you haven't already:

Let me know if any of that helps.

Hi Eric,

Here is a screenshot from my system.

The inputs appear as normal but don't seem to pass audio from Live through to Magic on multiple channels.

I shall keep tinkering....

Hey Dave, I think I might know what's going on.

Those inputs, at least the ones I see in your screenshot, will only let you get audio from your hardware input jacks. Theoretically what you could do is run audio cables from your output jacks back to your input jacks, but that's usually not the best solution.

I've got a brief tutorial here about how to set up software audio routing: http://magicmusicvisuals.com/forums/vie ... p?f=3&t=10. In short, there are a few different methods. Whatever is natively supported by your audio hardware would give you the best performance, but it might not let you transfer multiple channels.

The software we generally recommend for routing on Windows is VB-Cable, because it's free and it's the easiest to set up: http://vb-audio.pagesperso-orange.fr/Cable/. If I remember correctly, I've had the best luck with their "Voicemeeter" app.

Here are some other options:
http://software.muzychenko.net/eng/vac.htm
http://jackaudio.org/

We are also hoping to support ReWire in the future.

I hope that helps. Please feel free to let me know if you have any questions.

voicemeeter is great for this, that's really an useful software, I'm using it since the beginning on stage and never had an issue with it. I'm not in front of my computer , but you must do something like this :
first , in voicemeeter windows, you need to select your asio driver(firestudio) as an output, so voicemeeter will use the driver from your asio card ( output A1 ). you can too select an second output (A2) in MME or KS mode , if you are using some ffgl which use the audio input ( for exemple fugpower , fugscope form bigfug.com)
second, you need to select the voicemeeter virtual asio driver as the driver for your DAW, voicemeeter will route the audio signal to your soundcard.you can choose one of the 8 virtual audio output for each track.
third, in magic, select the voicemeeter virtual asio driver too in audio setting, and choose the input you need .

basically:
DAW virtual asio driver use the 8 outputs------>magic virtual asio driver use the 8 inputs. voicemeeter wil use your soundcard driver for the sound, so there is no latency and the quality is still the same.
