project repository?

Tue Dec 11, 2018 4:17 pm

I have been searching to find if there is a data base with projects and scenes somewhere I can pull from and add to to make collaborating a bit sleeker. It seems like something that should be online somewhere.

Main reason I am asking is I have a surprise holiday show that got landed on me and I need a lot of different types of holiday related scenes. I am ok with making them and sharing them with the world in the hopes that it may make someones job a little easier. Is there such a thing and I just haven't done the search correctly yet?

This question has been discussed a few times (such as viewtopic.php?f=2&t=1729&p=7984#p7984).

Here is a quick summary so that all the info is in one place:
1) There are lots of sample projects included with the application via Help > Open Sample Project
2) There are more complex projects (often with audio and other asset files) in the Tutorials forum: viewforum.php?f=3
3) There are further .magic files that users have posted throughout the forums

I've been meaning to create a forum just for user-uploaded projects, so I'll be happy to do so when you upload yours. But, for the record, please keep in mind that many Magic users are semi-professional or professional artists who work hundreds of hours on their projects, and:
1) They don't want to share their projects because their art is personal and meaningful; or
2) They can't share their projects because their clients own the intellectual property; or
3) They want to get paid fairly for their work; or
4) They don't have time to package things neatly and provide support for other users

Those are really the reasons you don't find more projects online. I would just offer my opinion that nothing good is free, and nothing free is good :). But I'm open to hear your thoughts or anyone else's thoughts.

I would be up for that.
Having some kind of repo to at least create and store demo projects collectively would be cool.
Already thought about creating one on github, but since .magic files are binary files I was kind of not motivated to use git :-D
