Random video start time

Post by sameloop »

Hi.

I'm trying to get a video to have a different start time every time the scene is played in a playlist, either manually or on auto advance.

I've tried using a sine oscillator on 'start time' with a scale modifier set to the length of the video in seconds (it's quite long, by the way - 47 minutes) and also 'scene start' is on.

I can see the value go up and down nicely, but it doesn't actually change the start time when the scene is triggered.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Your Sine Oscillator is resetting to 0 when the scene changes, so that's why you're getting the same result every time.

If you want a truly random value, use the Random modifier.

Great, thanks. Works fine with just that.

I actually was just trying the same thing with a random set for the video's start time with Scene Start selected, but it always starts at the very beginning of the video. Any reason this would be happening?

Perhaps set the random value to the length of the video (in seconds).
