Best still image format/codec

Post by Kneedless »

What is the best Image format/Codec to use for best performance when dealing with still images?

I have test PNG TIF and TARGA the exact same results in performance, I assume it's my effects that are causing the frame rate to drop, not the image file format, but is there a recommended format for fastest frame rate?

I use magic to coincide with resolume so I need to make sure my magic music visuals are as light on the GPU as they can be.

How does Magic deal with processing still images?

As far as the Image module is concerned, the format doesn't matter at all. The image is loaded and decoded once, and then stored uncompressed in graphics memory. The only thing that would affect the frame rate is the image dimensions (larger = slower).

If you are experiencing a significant frame rate drop in Magic, it's most likely due to your project having too many modules for your computer to handle.
