CDJ/Mixer + Magic Music Visuals

Post by Denzel »

Hey guys,

I'm wondering what I would need to take the audio coming out of a CDJ mixer and connect it to Magic Music Visuals so I can map visuals to specific frequencies as opposed to just using an internal mic on my laptop to receive the audio (as it doesnt recognise the frequencies, or if it does, its very poor due to extra noise the mic is picking up).

Any help/suggestions?

Thanks!

Hmm, does your mixer have an extra audio output? And does your laptop have a line-in jack? The best thing would be to use an audio cable to directly connect those two.

Is that feasible for you?

Thanks for replying Eric.

I'm a little new to the hardware side of Audio visual stuff but basically this is the mixer

I have a Macbook Pro 13" which doesnt have an audio line in but apparently the headphone jack works the same (2 in 1)

Do you know what type of chord/jack I would need to connect it?

Thanks!

You would probably need something like this:

It just depends on what output you use from the mixer. You could use RCA (top image) or 1/4" (bottom image).

The MacBook Pro will accept a standard 3.5 mm stereo input, which is the side that looks like a headphone cable.

Does that help?

Actually, I might be wrong. I'm not sure that the new MacBooks accept stereo input. You might need to purchase a separate USB sound card to get it to work.

Here's a good inexpensive one that I use:

Sorry about that. Let me know if you have any questions about setting it up.
