KodeLife

Post by Sadler »

Some of you will already know Hexler's Touch OSC but he has another application that is interesting for Magic users. KodeLife is his real-time shader editor which allows one to play with values on the fly and watch what happens in the output. It supports image textures (though doesn't seem to support video) and has a full screen mode. I tried it with moderately complex shaders from ShaderToy and it works and is relatively easy to deal with.

That's interesting. I wish it supported ISF format though. It's nice to edit the shader directly, but without being able to build an ISF interface definition, I find it's output less useful. It makes me wish http://InteractiveShaderFormat.com had a standalone app.

VIDVOX, the originator of ISF, also released a free ISF editor, which runs nicely on OSX that I find very handy. (Doesn't seem to be a Windows version). http://vdmx.vidvox.net/tutorials/using-the-isf-editor

It shows you the output live, and can import (some) GLSLSandbox and Shadertoy shaders out of the box.

in version 0.5 that just came out, he added multiple passes and a ton of support for sliders / custom uniforms and audio spectrum input, everything that is needed to work with ISF, and I am messaging hexler on the cables.gl beta test slack about adding ISF, I will let you know what he says! would be nice to have a nice cross platform development tool for isf, and kodelife is my favorite shader dev tool.
