Help exporting video with midi controlled playlist

Post by Aryutkin »

Hi everybody, just got myself a copy of Magic, the one with full midi control, really excited about it!
Its a wonderful tool , very deep and I love the integration with midi and audio .

What I am doing is using scenes and midi automation heavily. I run Cubase (a DAW) on the same computer and it sends midi and audio to Magic. Midicommands switch scenes in playlist and control effects too. Everything works great.

Now I want to export a video file. I understand it is impossible to use live streaming for that so I rendered the audio and midi in Cubase and loaded those files into Magic.

But I cant get the playlist controls to react to midi file playing within Magic! The effects do work but the scenes dont switch!

What am I doing wrong?

Id be glad for any help, please!

You're not doing anything wrong -- the Playlist doesn't respond to MIDI files (yet). It's a feature I've been meaning to add, but you do have a couple other options:

- Use an InputSelector or MultiMix module to change between scenes. This is probably the best option for you because it's nearly identical to the Playlist but will allow the MIDI file control you're looking for.

- Use the playlist with auto-advance and/or playback control: https://magicmusicvisuals.com/downloads ... to-advance
and https://magicmusicvisuals.com/downloads ... ileControl. This way you can specify the exact duration of each scene in minutes and seconds.

Thanks a lot!
Well, I guess I will have to create a "master" scene and use it to switch scenes. I guess the transitions would have to be done with controlling the mix with a continious midi message

I'd love to see a file controlled playlist implemented l, itherwise the playlist feature is less useful since I want to have the same workflow while live-manipulating and exporting.

By the way, is there a way to grab video in real time , like some sort of a screen capture thing?

Do you want to actually capture video, or just a single frame?

I want to capture the output of Magic to a mp4 file, including all the real time tweaking I do. Sort of likwle recording live performance insteade of rendering offline

Well, we don't have that feature in Magic (yet) because there are a lot of really good existing tools, and most of them are free. For example, if you have an Nvidia card, their ShadowPlay feature (https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/ge ... hadowplay/) is tightly integrated with the graphics card, and gives the absolute best performance.

Windows 10 also has a very nice built-in recording utility: https://www.laptopmag.com/articles/how- ... windows-10

Similarly, you can use the QuickTime Player app on Mac. Or another Mac option is Syphon Recorder (http://syphon.v002.info/recorder/).

Just be aware that with real-time capture, you always run the risk of dropping frames.
