Re: Advanced beat detection/reaction and how that might work
Cool, thanks for the information, much appreciated. My use case is for both DJ stuff, where this would apply, and also live set stuff i.e: running alongside Ableton Live, where you have much more control over what gets triggered when, because you can send MIDI triggers etc and it’s all synced to BPM...

Re: Advanced beat detection/reaction and how that might work
Interesting, thanks.
So this makes me think it’s not trivial to do this in MMV or something that is already solved? Like, it can’t be done with the usual modifiers or modules?

Advanced beat detection/reaction and how that might work
Hi all. I'm imagining a setup where modules can be set to trigger not just on every transient or frequency detection, but, say, only once every bar (i.e: 4 beats) or more. Is this possible? I'm assuming the tempo would have to be detected automatically or input manually via tap tempo or something. H...

Re: Oscilloscope fully in Magic
Variable FOR LOOPs are not impossible... you can break out... Thanks artnik, very effective :D Updated version attached. Sample count can now be varied to facilitate tradeoff between resolution and speed. Hi there. Sorry for a stupid question, but I can't work out how to actually make this (XY Osci...

Thanks Actually i want tò use It in combination with Abeton.is there any facilities tò do this? I use LoopMIDI for communication to and from Magic and Ableton: https://www.tobias-erichsen.de/software/loopmidi.html This simple program creates a system MIDI connection between any program that support...

Re: Possible to achieve this effect?
Cool, thanks. I was familiar with that ISF site, but I guess not with which kind of dithering I needed. I've been messing around with it - definitely close to what I was after. The main issue I'm having is getting that 'refined' look like the video, with very few lines around the objects. It's alway...

Appreciate the reply - is that available in MMV? I haven’t seen it. Thanks.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9p_Si21ig7c&list=PLjEpdah_kOgfhdncO5YfjdQY9hFzPq-2r&index=35&ab_channel=FlightlessRecords I know it's a kind of dithering effect, but the ISF 'Dither/Bayer" isn't really doing it and I know there must be more to it. I think the actual video uses After...

Re: Newbie needing Magic files!
If you have a few weeks, you’ve definitely got time to learn enough to get some nice visuals together - I’ve done that for a similar length set within a similar time frame, and with not much expertise. The thing about Magic is once you start playing with even the fairly basic stuff, you can get some...

Wow! Nailed it. Thanks so much. You really know your way around Magic, that's for sure. I wouldn't have worked that out in a million years (well, maybe the scale/offset thing, but not the expression

Re: How to create a control range that starts with a negative value using MIDI controller
Hi. Thanks for the reply. Ok, so I'll try and describe it better: Imagine a MIDI controller with knobs that have a start and stop point, as opposed to infinite (as is the case on my Korg Nanokontrol). I want to assign a knob to a function - e.g: the 'X' on a 'Scale' module, but I want the range to s...

How to create a control range that starts with a negative value using MIDI controller
Hi.
I'm trying to make a control value with a range that starts from -20 to +20 (or any values), i.e: when the MIDI control knob is stopped at 0 (fully anti-clockwise) it's -20 and when it's fully clockwise it's +20. Can't quite work it out using modifiers (tried 'offset' but no joy)
Thanks.

Yes, that's it, thanks! Unfortunately it doesn't do what I hoped it would, but that's for another post. Appreciate the help.

"Param range" and "use as toggle" missing from MIDI options?
Hi. Wonder if anyone can help? Screenshots URLs: the first being what I'm seeing, the second being the (correct one) from the MMV manual. I'm using a Korg Nanokontrol Mk 2 (not that I think that's relevant here) and a knob for CC. I'm sure it's just something I've missed, but can't work it out. Than...

Re: HELP ! Hw suggestion ... (another newbie's question)
Well, I use an Asus GL702VM and it handles all the stuff you're talking about well. Something like that is going to cost at least £1000/ Euro, but you need something similar once you start running multiple 3d shaders with effects and video. There's loads of choice at that price point, obviously, so ...

Thanks guys! Brilliant.

Anyway, Solved!
Thanks again.

Control the speed of random modifier
Hi folks.
As above - I have a random modifier on an input selector and would like control of how quickly it sends a random value out.
Also, I guess I need to put a step modifier in there somewhere so that it increments in whole numbers?
Thanks for any help.
Cheers.

Random video start time
Hi. I'm trying to get a video to have a different start time every time the scene is played in a playlist, either manually or on auto advance. I've tried using a sine oscillator on 'start time' with a scale modifier set to the length of the video in seconds (it's quite long, by the way - 47 minutes)...
