Is my Mac laptop too old??
Hi, I have an older MacBook laptop. Running Magic on it. Noted that the Magic Window is not visible so I can't see what I am doing. I am assuming that it is an issue related to the requirements of Magic, versus the computer. Below is what this laptop is made of. Do you agree that these are likely th...

Re: A true alpha in exports
Hi, Okay, I got a test sample of png files and an added audio file to work in AE correctly. I used the more common frame rate in my world, 29.97/sec, and set Magic and AE to that PLUS I found that the preview frames rate did not match. I've never had to adjust that before. I'll put together a more c...

Re: A true alpha in exports
Okay. I'm sure you are getting tired of this, but I just realized something(s). If I export a Magic project as png files, they will not include an audio component. So I shouldn't expect that, in After Effects, even laying down an audio track, that the images would respond to the music. That connecti...

Re: A true alpha in exports
Placement appears to be important to have an image in the frame of a png file. Sadly, it is the png file that, in After Effects, ignores the alignment with animation and audio. Ao I can have mpg4s that play everything correctly but can be alpha-channeled, or png files that allow me to alpha channel,...

Re: A true alpha in exports
HI,
Hold on, there is something else going on here. I added an image next to my original and tried again. I got the edge of the added image. I must need to center the image somewhere or tell Magic where they are?

Re: A true alpha in exports
Hi,
Okay. I did a test of that, just a few seconds long. While I could see the image the entire time as it was rendering, the png files it exported were all blank. ???

A true alpha in exports
Hi, I am creating small pieces of a larger composition that are going to be finished and rendered in After Effects. I found an "alpha" reference in the color modules, but so far have not been able to make a true alpha--meaning that I can (for example) lay an image on top of another, and ha...

Re: Exporting movies with audio
Hello, I did find that the frames settings for AE and Magic were ten frames different. So far that has allowed me to export a movie from Magic that will play correctly in AE. Oddly, using the PNG files and a true mp3 of the music has not worked. I'll keep at it. I do normally use png in production. ...

Re: Exporting movies with audio
Hi,
Hmmm. Interesting. That might indeed be the case. I'll check in the morning.
If that fails, I'll send you a clip.

Re: Exporting movies with audio
Hi Eric, Okay. Here is what I have discovered. The mpeg4 made by Magic seems to play with the audio controlling the animation, as it was designed. The trouble occurs when I try to import that mpeg-4 into After Effects, where I work within the circular realm for our planetarium. Once there, it sees t...

Re: Exporting movies with audio
Hi,
Well, it must. The one that worked when I exported the movie and then played with it in After Effects worked fine.
It was a convenient way to grab the audio. But I have a ton of regular audio files I can try out.

Oops. That was actually the one that worked. My bad. Here is a screen shot of the correct, non-working project. I'll off line for a while.

Let me know if that did not come through right. I'm not used to the size restrictions the systems is using.

Hi,
Attached is the image. I am very new at this, so don't feel bad about pointing out obvious errors.
Best,

Re: Exporting movies with audio
As a PS to the previous post. I went back to an earlier practice project where I put an exported m,movie into After Effects and re-rendered it-- and the music continued to control the animation. Looking at the set up in Magic, I can't see a difference.

Exporting movies with audio
Hi,
I "seem" to have this set up right, but still my mpg4 render ignores the audio to control the animation. I must be missing something obvious--perhaps in another location?

Re: Seeking animation example
Hi, That does look nice. So the question is, do I need to build 3d models of things--a skill I do not currently have--in order to manipulate them as you did the candy cane? I was hoping that I could work with 2d art, in the beginning, to build up to more and more complex scenes. Ah, to have all the ...

Seeking animation example
HI, Seeking an example of a module, in line with an automatic (such as spinning) animation to the music. Example. Candy cane spins and changes color with the music. Haven't been successful yet. Knowing that sequence and content would be wildly helpful. New the Forum and Magic, and there are still ma...
