Re: Fading though an image folder

Thanks SO much! Awesome!
But, I have an embarrassing question: what is inside the two expressions? I can see just the start.... if (X<0.0,...)?
Sorry -- I tried a few things and I cant get it figured out. Thanks!

Fading though an image folder

This is one that I have actually solved before -- like a year ago -- and I was happy with my final elegant solution. (I had tried finding various solutions for a few weeks before one came to me in-a-flash...) BUT, damn, I forgot how I did it and I cant find my magic file! :[ Goal: I have a JpegFolde...

Folders from globals?

I have a bunch of scenes that do weird-stuff to images (every image in a folder...over time) -- each one relies on a different folder and, within each scene, I sometimes refer to the same folder a few times. I would love to have the option of getting a folder name (full path or whatever) from a glob...

Wow! That is SO cool!!
I love the visuals and the whole aesthetic/approach. Please share more as you do them!

Curie, Curie! Animations behind dancers

Hello magicians! I just finished a collaborative project with a group of people (a writer, a director, a choreographer, a composer, a costume maker, lighting artist, etc etc). We created a show -- with dancers, music, lighting, and (of course!) Magic visuals behind it all. The show was about the lif...

Re: Render Crash.... Mac... Please help.

Hi again! SO, this project is still crashing during the render (even on a beefier machine). But, it does ok if I render out at a lower resolution. It crashes with 1920x1080... or anything bigger... but it does ok with smaller sizes. Which I guess DOES suggest a memory issue... I have tried making so...

Re: Missing Links and Assets.... again

...Wait, should/could I have just "Merged Assets" into a Box folder? Would that have worked? (When I looked at my Box folder on the Windows machine, could I have then run the magic file from "within" Box, and would it find them then?)

Missing Links and Assets.... again

hi! I found some discussions about this -- but, I cannot find a good solution. I have my Magic file on my Mac... but, it cant handle the render! SO, I wanted to move it to my PC. I decided to use Box (mistake?). I "collected assets" to an external drive and then copied the assets-folder an...

Re: Render Crash.... Mac... Please help.

hi! I checked -- and it is already as Eric suggests (globally disabling "Load all scenes into graphics memory" as well as disabling "Keep scene in graphics memory" for each scene?") -- those ARE disabled. I dont think I have any weird plugins, etc. Any other suggestions woul...

Render Crash.... Mac... Please help.

Hello wonderful magicians! I have been falling in love with magic over the past few weeks. Pulling all nighters and falling into the flow state. Somehow one of my "Acts" (a big old Scene that calls tons of other scenes) has started crashing during the render. It goes for many hours (gettin...

Re: RotateAxis - Random between -0.01 and 0.01

I am new to expressions. BUT, I think this might be what you want: .01*sin(20*x) That will sin oscillate between -.01 and .01. Change the 20 to something smaller/larger to change the rate of oscillation. Note: a good way to figure these out is to use this site: https://www.desmos.com/calculator And ...

Re: Transparency effect question

On my to-do list :) Any updates on this thread/concept Eric? I have been waiting quite some years.... :) I know you have lots of other things on your plate, but this has been a dream of mine for many years (sad but true!). Any idea of this will ever come? Thanks, and I hope you-and-yours are well i...

Re: Transparency effect question

Just wondering if anything ever became of this concept/thread? Thanks! -james I'm envisioning that it would work in the same way as the Playlist: when you select a new input, it just transitions there. It wouldn't have a "From" parameter, only a "To", and the "To" would...

Text files to drive parameters?

Hello! I would love to have a text file (instead of an audio file) "drive" some parameters. For example, I might want to do some fancy "offline" analysis of a song -- and pull out some new themes/structures. I would love to then use my new "data" to drive the visuals. I...

Re: Routing from Reaper

Hi Raymond, yes there are many ways you can do that. For your situation, it would probably be best to use a third-party utility. Here is our tutorial on routing audio with several different options: https://magicmusicvisuals.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=10 For MIDI I generally recommend this:...

Re: Transparency effect question

That sounds great! I love those transitions at the link you included. It looks cool. One concern/thought/question would be: how would the temporal element be handled? I guess the idea would be to have a bunch of scene (or other) inputs, and the new unit would select one to "transition from"...

Yaay! that would be great (fade and hold). And, adding transition-style as well as TFD (Terry's Fancy Dissolve) would be fabulous as well. Yaay! :D

Re: Transparency effect question

Thanks! Actually, another option that I have been playing with (and am finding pretty nifty) is the "input selector" module. I have scenes feeding into that bad boy, and then a long/slow sine-wave to move between them. Two things would make it nicer: (1) allowing a random selection at cert...

Re: Transparency effect question

Thanks Eric. The problem I have with the playlist option is that it does not allow for random scene/fade durations -- and, that is pretty critical to what I want to create. Having a standard scene duration (e.g. 30 seconds or whatever) starts to become obvious/boring over time. And, having all the f...

Re: Transparency effect question

Hi, I would love to do something similar without using playlists please. :) Specifically, I have 10 scenes. I would love to have another scene ("SceneMaster") that would allow me to have one scene fade into another (say over 10 seconds) and then, after some (random) time, fade into another...
