Re: Video file size

My process for exporting from Magic is to make it the highest quality possible. I export at 120 Mbits and then use handbrake or ffmpeg to re-encode it until it is small enough for whatever the project requires. Handbrake is especially effective for getting high quality at a small size.

Re: Development and production

I would actually recommend using the same machine for development and production as you do for your live shows. Since MMV is running in real time, the specs of the machine have a great affect on the output. It's a lot easier to see what will negatively impact your frame rates etc if you create every...

Re: Rendering to a wall of ws2812b leds

I can explain my setup if it will help. But, I haven't used Magic to make the LED visuals. Hardware: Four 5 meter long ws2812 LED strips with 300 pixels each. Each strip is separated into 2 universes of 150 LEDs (for a total of 8 universes & 1200 LEDs). One LEDmx4 pro controller. The controller ...

Re: Magic Visual Keyboard round 4

Nice! The piano bits are phenomenal, I love that.

As far as the spider, another option might be to just make the arms travel a lot further? For instance, if they were moving twice the distance per beat, then they would look much faster and match the tempo of the drums better.

Re: DVI Output causing Spout problems?

If you have Optimus graphics it could be a problem where the DVI output is driven by the Intel graphics rather than NVIDIA. Then you might get the symptoms you describe. Do you see a Messagebox error at any time such as "Cannot create DirectX/OpenGL interop" ? This sounds like the problem...

Re: Hey guys... Lets make a Competition 2.0 !

One of my very good friends, Jon Shlens, was one of the lead researchers on the style transfer project at Google: https://research.googleblog.com/2016/10/supercharging-style-transfer.html He told me that with a very fast GPU it can almost be done at 60fps. But for most users, it would probably be w...

Re: Hey guys... Lets make a Competition 2.0 !

If I may, what's your workflow for Deep Dream? Doesn't it take days for video? Basic Workflow - I dual boot Ubuntu on my laptop and use it to run the Fast-Neural-Style network with my own pre-trained models. As long as you have a good GPU and use the feed-forward process it isn't too bad, but it ca...

One scene, kaleidoscopes all over the place, and one spectrum in the center. Original footage was processed through Google deep dream before insertion into Magic, 8-)

Re: Use Audio Streams in Video as Inputs?

One time, I was asked to overlay a bunch of audio reactive effects onto a video of a live performance. I think this is similar to what you initially were trying to do. I couldn't use the original video in Magic because I didn't want to re-render it and degrade the quality which wasn't super high to ...

I made a thing

Messing around for an upcoming party this weekend, and recorded a quick promo in Magic: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UYGxRocVQAA The main element is the ISF "80's EQ" put through a quad mirror and masked to a bunch of moving bars. The text is a Fish Eye effect that scales to the bass fr...

Re: Video capture device

Another option would be to look into OBS to do a live-stream of your Photoshop performer on their computer, and then use SpoutToNDI to send it over the network and receive the input in your computer. I haven't tried it with Magic, but it works for Resolume so it should work in Magic too. https://obs...

Re: What controllers do you guys use with magic?

My current controller of choice is the Livid Base II. I have used a lot of hardware, but never anything that is as bullet proof and easy to transport. You seriously can't break it. It is awesome. http://lividinstruments.com/products/base/ I don't use my controller in Magic though, I only use it for ...

Re: how do you use exported magic videos in resolume?

Another option: You can just leave your Magic scenes running in Magic itself and use Spout or Syphon instead of exporting them and loading them in Resolume. That allows you a lot more freedom and on stage improvising. Just set it up in Magic, and then in Resolume, use the SpoutReceiver to pull them ...

I thought the hard drive was 1 terabyte. And from my reseach i saw ppl recommending a SSD. And even some ppl recommended one stronger than 128gb, do you think i would be fine 128gb? also, what is the purpsoe of an SSD? SSD drives read/write data significantly faster than a traditional HD (ssd reall...

Re: Questions about laptop software

Shigudy - It's not a bad setup for the price and the performance should be enough for all the things you want to do. The only issue I see is your HD being 128 gigs. That is going to be eaten up fast, especially if you end up doing a lot of video work. The only other thing to check is that the 4gigs ...

Re: MIDI troubles

Also, it could be the OS upgrade that is causing you trouble. I had numerous issues when I originally upgraded from Win7 to Win10, although mostly with the graphics. The only solution I ever found was to do a 'clean' install of Win10. Once I did that, everything worked straight away. I would recomme...
